Q

What are the requirements for VFR A/C to operate to or from an uncontrolled aerodrome that lies within an MF NORDO?

A

1) Ground station must be in operation
2) Prior notice of the pilots intention to operate at the aerodrome has been given to the ground station
3) When conducting takeoff, the pilot ascertains by visual observation that there is no likelihood of collision with another A/C or vehicle
4) When approaching for landing, the A/C enters the aerodrome traffic circuit from a position that will require it to complete 2 sides of the circuit before turning final.

Q

When giving AAS to a NORDO pilot, despite the fact that there will be a significant delay between AAS and arrival/departure, what information is given?

A

Current wind, current altimeter, runway always given as preferred, even if active. For arriving NORDO, all proposed and enroute A/C with an ETA/ETD that falls within 5 mins before till 10min after NORDO ETA shall be passed as traffic. For outbound NORDO, just before departure until 10min after departure is traffic, including active bay.
Circuit traffic is always passed.

16
Q

When does a departing NORDO/RONLY A/C make a runway active?

A

When the A/C is observed taxiing for a particular runway.

Until then, the runway is considered preferred.

17
Q

When do you provide arriving NORDO/RONLY A/C as traffic to other A/C

A

From 5 min before until 10min after the ETA, or until the A\C has landed.

18
Q

When does an arriving NORDO/RONLY A/C make a runway active?

A

Not until the A/C is observed joining the circuit for a particular runway.

19
Q

How can RONLY A/C acknowledge FSS transmissions when on the ground?

A

Can acknowledge by moving ailerons or rudder

20
Q

How can RONLY A/C acknowledge FSS transmissions when in the air?

A

Can acknowledge by rocking wings or by single flash of landing lights

21
Q

What do you do if unknown A/C is observed within the MF?

A

Broadcast traffic update on MF.

eg. “Traffic, observed four miles northeast, inbound twin engine aircraft, intentions unknown”

22
Q

When is a FDS for an inbound NORDO placed in the active bay before 5 min before ETA?

A

If the A/C is passed as traffic before the 5 min mark, it is placed in the active bay when passed as traffic.

23
Q

When is a FDS for an outbound NORDO placed in the active bay?

A

Just prior to the ETD or when the A/C is observed taxiing, whichever is earlier.

24
Q

Instruct ground vehicles to leave appropriate runway or taxiway, when?

A

Atleast 5 min before ETA until 10min after, or for outbound, before departing A/C enters the manoeuvring area.
