Auxillary structures of skeletal Muscle Flashcards
What is a Fascia
a sheet of fiborus connective tissue that is deep to skin and surrounds muscles and other organs of the body
describe superficial fascia
seperates the muscle from the skin
provides pathway for nerves and vessles
stores fat and insulates
protects muscle from trauma
what are the 2 types of fascia talked about in lecture?
Suprficial fascia and deep fascia
describe deep fascia
-holds muscle with similar functions together
-allows free movement
-carries nerves and vessles
-fills space between muscle
Part of fascia:
Epimysium
covers the entire muscle and holds fascile together
Part of fascia:
perimysium
covers fascicle by going AROUND them
Part of fascia:
endomysium
inside or WITHIN muscle fibers
Tendon:
an extension of connective tissue that connect muscle to bone or to other muscle
tendon proper
What it does?
does the connecting. conencts skeletal muscle to bone
tendon sheath
what it does?
encloses tendons to allow them to slide back and forth easily
Muscles are highly …..
vasculaur!!
nerves that convey sensory information to the central nervous system are…
(afferent or effernt?)
afferent nerves
nerves that convey impules for muscular contraction to spinal cord are ….
(afferent or efferent?)
efferent nerves
2 types of muscle receptors
Muscle spindles and Golgi tendon organs
Muscle spindle:
-where is it located on muscle?
-what does it pick up on?
-where does the information go to?
-what is the response?
-located INSIDE
-picks up on muscle LENGTH
-sends info to central nervous system
-response is muscle contraction
