16
Q

How many RO (reverse osmosis) units do we have?

A

[2] Main 1 - Mid level

17
Q

How much water do the RO units produce?

A

12,000 gallons per day, 500 gallons per hour

18
Q

What skids are the RO units on? [3]

A

Filter - electric heater, centrifugal separator, 20 & 3 micron filter, and activated carbon filter

HP Pump - HP Pump, Pump driver mother, V-belt drive and an accumulator

RO Module - RO Modules, dump, valves, flow meters, pressure reducing coils, bypass valves

19
Q

How many RODM (Reverse Osmosis DeMineralizer)s do we have and where is it located?

A

[1] AUX 1 Upper level

20
Q

How much water do the RODMs produce?

A

18-22 gallons of potable water are produced for every 100 gallons of seawater

21
Q

What is the demineralized water used for?

A

Gas turbine water wash
Electronic cooling water skid
SPY polish

22
Q

How many hot water heaters do we have?

A

[3]

23
Q

Where are the hot water heaters located and what does each provide?

A

Main 1 Mid level by the ROs (2)
- used for crew galley, showers, and sinks

Outside filter cleaning shop (1)
- used for wardroom galley, showers, and sinks

24
Q

What are the VCHT locations?

A

FWD pump room
Shaft alley

One tank in each location
- holds 490 gallons of black water (sewage)

25
Q

What are the three modes of VCHT?

A

At sea: sewage is collected and then pumped over the side

Inport: sewage is collected and then pumped to the pier

In-transit: Sewage is collected and held in the tanks. This mode is used during sea and anchor and when the ship is less than 3 miles from land

26
Q

What is HALONs chemical composition?

A

11 C
32 F
1 Cl
11 Br

27
Q

What is HALON used for?

A

Extinguishing agent for a BRAVO fire in the module

- HALON 1301 / 5 lb CO2 activation

28
Q

Where is the OWS (Oil Water Separator) located and what does it do?

A

Located in AUX 2

Used to separate water from oil, clean water goes over the side into the ocean. Oil left over stays in a waste oil holding tank until the ship returns to port where it is pumped to a shore facility.

29
Q

What are the Main Drainage Eductors used for and where are they located?

A

Used to dewater engineering spaces

Located in:
AUX 1
Main 1
Main 2

30
Q

What are the five modes of steering?

A

Computer assisted auto - gyro/rudder inputs to maintain course

Computer assisted manual - Operator uses the Manual Steering Wheel Assembly (MSWA)

Backup manual - All steering commands are transmitted to each individual LCU by hard wire connections

Emergency - Operator controls the rudder via a helm order control knob on the LCU (AFT steering only)

Emergency manual - One rudder is moved at a time using an electric or hand pump (AFT Steering)
