Q

How is Mary the mother of God

A

Christians call Mary the Mother of God.
Jesus did not have a human father.
Holy Spirit began the baby growing inside Mary. Mary was the mother of that baby, and the baby was God-made-man. Therefore Mary was the mother of God. It does not mean that Mary is divine. She was just a human being; but her son Jesus is truly god and truly man.

Q

Why did Jesus’ followers wait so long before writing a record of his life and teachings?

A

Reason 1: In those days, information was usually passed around by word of mouth so Jesus’ message was kept alive by preaching to others about him.
Reason 2: As long as the disciples were alive, the information about Jesus was safe. It was only when they became older or died that there was a need to write it down.
Reason 3: Jesus’ early followers thought that Jesus would return to the world in their lifetime. It was only when they realised that this would not happen that they decided to keep a more permanent record.

life and worship. Sadly, this Temple was destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE and has never been rebuilt because, half a century later Jews were expelled from Palestine and the site became occupied by mosques. There were very strict rules about this. The outer Court was open to everyone and was full of traders selling animals but there was a notice warning non-Jews that they would be put to death if they went any further.
Further on was the ‘Court of the Women’ and‘Court of the Men’ and only priests were allowed to
proceed further than this, to the ‘Court of the Priests’ where there was a large, stone altar upon
which daily animal sacrifices took place.
The inner part of the Temple was called ‘The holy place,’ inside of which a heavy curtain divided it
from the ‘Holy of Holies’
- into which only the high priest was allowed to go once a year, to offer a
sacrifice for all people.
