Autonomics I and II Flashcards
1
Q
What are the two divisions of the ANS?
A
1) Sympathetic
2) Parasympathetic
2
Q
Characteristics of the ANS?
A
- Involuntary divisions of the nervous system that consist of motor neurons (autonomic neurons) that conduct impulses to cardiac muscle, smooth muscle, and glands.
- It’s a two-neuron pathway: preganglionic neuron cell body is located in CNS and synapses with a ganglionic neuron in the PNS. A postganglionic fiber terminates on the effector organ.
3
Q
Parasympathetic
A
- Rest and Digest
- Placid
- Peaceful and calm
- It is 90% cranial nerves; origin is the head and lower spinal cord.
- 3, 7, 9 and 10 are parasympathetic!
4
Q
Sympathetic
A
- Four F’s: Fight, Flight, Feed, Find love
- Stress, irritability, afraid
- All jacked up
- Sympathetic nerves come from the thoracic region and come back up to the head via the sympathetic chain .
