16
Q

adverse effects of Phenylephrine

A

constipation, HTN, bradycardia (reflexive b/c of HTN), urinary retention

17
Q

Phentolamine/ Prazosin adverse effects

A

tachyardia, weakness dizziness, flushing, orthostatic hypotension, nasal congestion (alpha antagonist effects)

18
Q

isoproterenol 1,2 / Dobutamine adverse effects

A

serious –> ventricular arrhythmia, tacharryhtmia, HTN, pulmonary edema
common –> tachycardia, angina, dizzy/flush, orthostatic hypotension, nasal congestion (Beta agonist functions)

19
Q

Atenolol, Propranolol adv effects

A

bradycardia (vasoconstriction -reflex), exacerbate asthma
serious -> CHF, bentricular arrhythmia, severe bradycardia, MI if abrupt d/c, Raynaud’s syndrome (compensatory vasoconstriction) bronchospasm (Beta antagonist)

20
Q

Epi, Nor epi adv effects

A

severe HTN, bradycardia (common - reflex) exacerbate asthma, extrvasational necrosis, bronchospasm, cold extremities, dyspnea

21
Q

Bethanechol

A

M agonist

22
Q

Atropine

A

M antagonist

23
Q

Bethanechol indications

A

urinary retention and ileus

24
Q

Atropine indications

A

bradycardia, aspiration prophylaxis, block cardio vagal response

25
Q

Bethanechol adverse effects

A

bronchospasm, HYPOtension, tachycardia (reflexive)

other -> urinary urgency, vasomotor response, diarrhea, diaphoresis

26
Q

Atropine adverse effects

A

heatstroke, tachycardia, xerostomia (dry mouth), constipation, dry hot skin

27
Q

pt comes in w/ MI and bradycardia and left arm pain –> pop them w/ atropine, what do you look for?

A

if heart activity comes back to normal, will prove they were suffering from over active vagal nerve –> (parasympathetic inhibition of cardiac action)
