Autonomic Nervous System Drugs Flashcards
Is the nerve fiber that sends impulses to the Central Nervous System.
Afferent Neurons
Is the nerve fiber that receives impulses, transmits through the spinal cord to effector organ cells.
Efferent Neurons
A theory where the drugs act through receptors by binding to the receptors to initiate a response or prevent a response.
Receptor Theory
These are the drugs that produces a response.
Agonist
These are drugs that blocks a response.
Antagonist
Is made from Choline and Acetyl CoA.
Acetylcholine (ACh)
The enzyme that breaks down the ACh in the synaptic cleft.
Acetylcholinesterase
This is transported back into the axon terminal and is used to make more ACh.
Choline
The drug that increases muscle tone in bladder and GIT as its therapeutic effect.
Bethanecol
The therapeutic of this drug is not as susceptible to AChE and is used locally to constrict pupil and decrease IOP.
Carbachol
What is the duration of the drug Edrophonium?
10-20 minutes
What is Bethanecol’s route of administration?
PO (by mouth)
What is the therapeutic use of Oxybutynin?
Bladder function
What is Atropine’s route of administration?
IV, IM, SubQ
What blocks alpha and beta receptor blockers?
Adrenergic Blockers
