Autoflight System Flashcards
What does the careted EICAS message “>Autopilot” mean? (QRH, Ch 4)
• The autopilot is operating in a degraded mode.
On a Category III approach, what should the FMA indications be shortly after passing 1,500 feet?
(AOM Vol II, Ch 4)
- Autothrottle Mode “SPD” .
- Roll Mode “LOC” with “ROLLOUT” armed.
- Pitch Mode “G/S” with “FLARE” armed.
- “LAND 3” annunciated.
On a go around, what should the FMA indications be after one push of the TOGA buttons, and what do the indications mean?
(AOM Vol II, Ch 4)
- Autothrottle Mode “THR” will produce a 2,000 fpm climb rate.
- Roll Mode “TOGA” will maintain existing heading/track.
- Pitch Mode “TOGA” will maintain target airspeed up to the IAS window plus 25 knots.
During an approach and landing, when does TOGA arm and disarm?
(AOM Vol II, Ch 4)
- Arms at glideslope capture or flaps not up. 26
* Disarms at 5 feet radio altitude, plus 2 seconds.
With VNAV armed for takeoff, when passing 400 feet what changes will occur with your FMA, FMC commanded speed, and EICAS N1 Indicators?
(AOM Vol II, Ch 4)
- Autothrottle Mode “THR REF”.
- Pitch Mode “VNAV SPD”.
- FMC Commanded Speed Bug - V2+10 to V2+25.
- EICAS N1 - FMC generated thrust reference magenta line will appear.
VNAV did not engage at 400 feet on takeoff. What would you do to control aircraft pitch and power?
(AOM Vol I, Ch SP) (AOM Vol II, Ch 4)
- Select FLCH, activating FLCH SPD as the pitch mode.
- At acceleration height, Manually advance the Command Airspeed bug to V2 + 100.
- THR button is not required on takeoff, since the climb thrust was programmed in to the FMS.
VNAV did not engage on a go around. What would you do to control aircraft pitch and power?
(AOM Vol I, Ch SP) (AOM Vol II, Ch 4)
- Select FLCH, activating FLCH SPD as the pitch mode.
- Manually advance the Command Airspeed bug to V2 + 100.
- THR button is required to change the thrust reference to CLB or CON.
If a TOGA throttle switch is not pressed prior to 50 knots, what will the autothrottle system do on takeoff?
(AOM Vol II, Ch 4)
- Nothing, thrust must be set manually.
* Autothrottle cannot be engaged until above 400 feet.
What is required to use VNAV as a pitch mode for a non-ILS approach?
(AOM Vol I, Ch SP) (QRH, Ch AP)
- Approach must be line selectable by name.
- LEGS page must have a gradient path between 2.75 and 3.50 degrees.
- No changes to any waypoint inside the FAF.
You are executing a Localizer approach to runway 24R. There is no LOC 24R selection on the DEP/ARR page of the FMS. What would you select for the approach? Under what condition can you use VNAV as the pitch mode?
(AOM Vol I, Ch SP) (QRH, Ch AP)
- Select the ILS 24R approach from the DEP/ARR page.
- To use VNAV, there must be a note on the procedure chart saying that the ILS GS and the LOC descent angle are the same.
