A
  • The Pope dies ; there are 9 days of mourning following his funeral; a carmelango takes his position for as long as there is no pope
  • Conclave ( College of Cardinals meeting to elect) takes place in the Sistine chapel
  • Need at least 2/3 rds plus one votes but if a Pope is not elected within 2 weeks it will change to 1/2 plus one votes
  • Black smoke shows no Pope has been elected and white smoke indicate there has been a pope elected
  • The dean of cardinals announces the new pope
