Audiometric Techniques Flashcards
must be accomplished by the worker at the reference audiogram
AF Form 1753 (Case History)
completed by the worker
section I
completed by provider only if asterisked item marked yes by worker
section II
when is LEI performed
prior to ALL audiometric tests and HPD fittings
earphone placement
remove anything that could interfere with placement
examiner should place earphones on patient
red= right ear
blue= left ear
find the safest decibel level a person is able to hear
audiometric threshold
sequence of test frequencies
1000, 500, 1000 (retest), 2000, 3000, 4000, & 6000
this method should be used for both the Automatic and Manual testing
bracketing procedure
first step of bracketing procedure
obtain an initial response
if no response at 30dB increase intensity by 20 dB
second step of bracketing procedure
once initial response is obtained, apply standard rule
standard rule
positive response –> decrease by 10dB
negative response –> increase by 5dB
continue to “bracket” the threshold until
2/3 positive responses at the same decibel level on an ascending track
what is the exception
if a positive response is given at -10dB present the tone a second time and record as threshold
record results of manual audiometry on a blank
DD Form 2215 (baseline) or 2216 (annual audiogram)
one ear has hearing within normal limits and the opposite ear has hearing loss
unilateral hearing loss
