Do not write an FDNY summons to the tenant of a multiple dwelling.
Only write fdny summons to tenant for something they have complete control over. Example range hood, fire extinguishers in a store or office .

Order of preference

No! Issue forthwith VO
If there is no authorized person there to accept service of VO for an immediate hazard , THEN you would prepare an FDNY summons

They are subject to special reports, A8 fire prevention referral or other means
We can issue FDNY summons to nyc agency. e.g nycha
Note : treat CUNY schools as state agency

When to notify FDNY
For sprinkler or fire alarm system OOS
When More than 1 floor of the building is affected for oos sprinkler or alarm system
Sprinkler: when not repaired and restored within 8hrs
Fire alarm: when OOS for more than 8hours in a 24 hour period
When One or more other fire protection systems are OOS in the area of a sprinkler or alarm system

Yes when ordered by a Battalion chief or above

Do not replace if any doubt exists

OOS Fire protection system In a residential occupancy.
There is no owner or building staff present.
What to do
Ask dispatcher to notify OEM
OEM will have HPD provide fire watch
Fire alarm co. Or marshalls will try to locate responsible party
IC should consider using engine as fire watch if HPD not available
Upon return to quarters make proper notifications and summonses

After dispatcher notifies OEM for a fire protection system OOS in a multiple dwelling , what are the responsibilities of the ADMINISTRATIVE unit upon return to quarters
Notify first alarm units of particulars
Forward A500 to Div. commander for sprinkler or standpipe OOS
Standpipe/Sprinkler OOS in commercial occupancy FPCU 1 forwarded to FPOSU
Forward A8 to fire prevention in all cases where sprinkler/standpipe system is in doubt

Impairment coordinator
If owner doesn’t designate an impairment coordinator than the owner is responsible

Notification to the FD of a planned removal of the standpipe system at a construction site, should be made how far in advance ?
24 hours
Owner/ fire safety manager/ impairment coordinator. Ensure fire watch is continuously maintained 24hours a day
Officer obtains full particulars and makes CJ entry and notify adm unit, if out of admin area.

Upon notification of fire protection system oos, what is the first action you should take.
Immediately investigate with members and apparatus
Exception: shut down for inspection, testing, maintenance AND will be back in service by end of business day. Unless officers feels it is necessary to investigate
Dept should be notified upon restoration of system. Fire watch shall be provided during this time

Must be painted red to be considered in a state of readiness
