Define active Euthanasia.
The active acceleration of a ‘good’ death, done deliberately to cause death in a kind way.
What is ageism?
Prejudice and discrimination against the elderly
Define ‘bereaved’
Someone who has suffered from the loss of a loved one.
What is a care home?
A place to live for the elderly who are ill and need specialist medical treatment.
Define euthanasia.
From the Greek meaning good death. Inducing a painless, dignified death, by agreement and with compassion, to ease suffering.
What is an extended family?
All family members including grandparents and cousins, etc..
What is the generation gap?
A difference in the views between the young and the old
What is a hospice?
A home in which people may go to die with dignity, and to receive palliative care.
What is palliative care?
Treatment for the terminally ill that targets the symptoms but not the cause of the illness.
What is passive euthanasia?
Ending someone’s life by withholding medicine or turning off life support.
Define ‘Quality of life’
A measure of a person’s happiness or fulfillment.
What is a residential home?
A home for the elderly in which they receive meals and support, but not medical treatment. They have areas to socialise with each other.
Define ‘sanctity of life’
The belief that life is a gift from God and is therefore sacred.
WHat is sheltered housing?
A complex of small flats adapted for the use of the elderly with a warden in case of emergency, which allows the elderly to be independent but supported.
What is suicide?
When a person choses to take their own life.
