To fulfill certain psychological needs

Attitude provides rewards and to provide punishment. It is often based on belonging and group identification
Knowledge
Provides an understanding of the environment and making sense of the world.

Serves as a defense mechanism to hide painful truths from ourselves and other harsh realities.

Allow us to express an important aspect of self or group identity. Attitudes reflect a core value of the image we would like to project

Acquire information similarly to to expectancy value. How we integrate or combine new information with pre-existing beliefs.
