- Inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that is inconsistent with developmental level
- Interferes with functioning in at least 2 settings (school, home, work)
- At least some of the symptoms must be presents before age 7
- Adults must have childhood onset and persistent and current symptoms to be diagnosed
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity-disorder (ADHD)
Clinical Findings:
- Marked inattention, distractibility, organization difficulties, and poor efficiency (academic and occupational failure)
- Can also have low frustration tolerance, shifting activities, difficulty organizing, and daydreaming.
- Symptoms often attenuate during late adolescence, although a minority will experience full symptoms into mid-adulthood.
- More frequent in males.
