Attachment - Evaluation of Caregiver-Infant Interactions (AO3) Flashcards
Do mother-infant interactions have a ‘special meaning’?
There’s no way for certain to know that behaviours in mother-infant interactions have a special meaning
- infant movements are hard to identify, because there’s no way of knowing what they could mean
Why is it a strength of controlled observations capturing fine detail?
The baby won’t change their behaviours because they are unaware they’re being recorded
- reduces demand characteristics
High external and ecological validity
Feldman
Synchrony and reciprocity simply describe behaviours that occur at the same time
Why do we need an explanation of of the purpose of caregiver-infant interactions?
There needs to be an explanation as to why synchrony and reciprocity occur in infant’s behaviour
Le vine et al
Reported than Kenyan mothers have little physical interactions or physical contact with their infants, but such infants do have a high proportion of secure attachments
How does ethnocentric research affect the validity of the research into this area?
Children from a different ethnicity or country may be treated differently or act differently to other ethnicities
- an example of being ethnocentric
