compared to control group of 52 British children adopted before six months
social, cognitive, physical development examined
Romanian orphans showed delayed development in all elements of progress, however Romanian orphans adopted before six months caught up with British control group

A

Sample of almost 100 participants between 12 and 31 months
90% had spent most of life in an orphanage compared with control group who had never been institutionalised.
attachment type assessed with strange situation. Carers were also asked about infants behaviours such as clinging, attention seeking etc.
74% of control group securely attached to caregivers compared to 19% of experimental group.
