ATTACHMENT 3 Flashcards
What are the 3 segments of Mikulincer & Shaver’s attachment behavioural system model
- Activation of the attachment system and resultant primary strategy of proximity seeking
- Consequences of proximity seeking – helpful or not?
- Secondary strategies that can be used if the primary strategy fails
How do attachment styles become engrained?
Neural circuits supporting each pathway around the model are reinforced over time through repeated use. Means you become more likely to make the same decisions as you encounter each decision point over time.
What is the ‘broaden-and-build cycle of security’
When attachment figures are appraised as available and responsive, individuals are able to manage their distress and recover from threat
What is a ‘secure base script’
Procedural knowledge on how to deal with stress
• Acknowledging and appropriately communicating distress
• Seeking proximity and intimacy
• Engaging in problem solving
Define emotions
- Functional, organized systems of evaluative thoughts and action tendencies
- Supported by physiological changes
- Generated by the appraisal of internal and external events in relation to goals and concerns
