- Insecure resistant least common apart from in Japan and Israel
- Insecure avoidant most common in West Germany, least in Japan and Israel
- Japan and Israel was a collectivist culture in 1988
- methodology: meta-analysis - increases validity
- Aim: looking to see if there are interculture differences and intraculture differences in attachment
- Findings: variation within cultures, 1.5x greater than variation between cultures
