Atrophy or degenerative Flashcards
1
Q
What can any long term to the spinal cord result in? How does this present?
A
- death of axons or cell bodies
- presents as atrophy (shrinkage of the spinal cord) and progressive spinal cord dysfunction
2
Q
What other type of condition can present with progressive spinal cord dysfunction?
A
- some degenerative conditions that result in primary neuronal death
3
Q
For atrophic conditions, what can happen if the underlying pathology is removed?
A
- neurological status may be stable and not progressively deteriorate
4
Q
Progression of degenerative conditions
A
- pathology is usually insidiously progressive in neurological dysfunction
5
Q
Is dysfunction from atrophy or degeneration treatable?
A
- no
