ATP Flashcards
What does ATP stand for?
Adenosine Triphosphate.
What is the structure of ATP?
Made of ribose, adenine and 3 phosphate groups.
How is energy released through the hydrolysis of ATP?
The bonds between phosphate molecules are unstable and have a low activation energy so can be quickly and easily broken to release lots of energy, ADP and a phosphate molecule.
What is hydrolysis of ATP catalysed by?
The enzyme ATP Hydrolase
What can the inorganic phosphate be used for?
Can phosphorylate other compounds (make them more reactive).
What is the condensation of ADP and Pi catalysed by and what does it form?
Catalysed by ATP Synthase. Produces ATP.
When does the condensation of ADP and Pi occur?
During photosynthesis and respiration.
