Atomic Theory Flashcards
What are atoms made up of?
Protons, Neutrons and Electrons.
What is the charge and mass of an Electron?
Charge: -1
Mass: 0
What is the charge and mass of a Proton?
Charge: +1
Mass: 1
What is the charge and mass of a Neutron?
Charge: 0/Neutral
Mass: 1
Where are the Protons and Neutrons held?
In the Nucleus.
Where are the Electrons held?
On the Energy Levels.
What is the Atomic Number equal to?
The number of Protons.
What is the Mass Number equal to?
The number of Protons plus Neutrons.
How do we figure out the number of Electrons?
The number of Protons is equal to the number of Electrons.
What charge does the Nucleus have?
The nucleus is positively charged.
What is an Isotope?
Isotopes are atoms with the same atomic number but different mass number.
What makes the mass number of an Isotope different?
It has a different number of Neutrons.
What is an Ion?
A charged particle.
What type of Ions do metals make?
Positive ions.
What type of Ions do non-metals make?
Negative ions.
