Q

cathode ray tube

A

JJ Thompson
Contained an electric field to study the stream of particles and expetced that the rays would travel in a straight path but observed a deflection. He came to the conclusion that the cathode ray must be composed of negatively charged particles called electrons.

Q

Gold foil experiment

A

Positively charged alpha particles were shot at a thin piece of gold foil. And Rutherford predicted that the particles would go straight through. But some alpha particles bounced deflected and even bounced back to the source. Rutherford then discover the nucleus which then contained protons.
