Atomic Structure Chapter 3 Flashcards
What is in a nucleus. (In the middle of an atom)?
Protons and neutrons are are inside of the nucleus.
What is inside of the electron shell.(the outer part of an atom)?
Electrons are inside of the electron shell.
What is the number of protons equal too?
The number of electrons in that atom.
What is the relative mass for protons, neutrons, electrons.
Proton:1
Neutrons:1
Electrons:1/1840
What is the relative charge for proton, neutrons, electrons
Proton:+1
Neutron:0
Electrons:-1
What is the proton number/atomic number?
The proton number of an atom is the number of protons in its nucleus. (It is the same as the electrons
What is a nucleon number ?
The nucleon number is the total number of protons and neutrons in nucleus
Nucleon number =proton number + number of neutrons.
What does charge number on an ion indicates?
The number of electrons that have been lost in a positive ion AND the number of electrons have been gained in a negatively charged ion.
What are isotopes ?
Isotopes are atoms of the same element that have the same proton number but different nucleon numbers. This means that they have different numbers of neutrons.
What is the distributing rule
