Atmosphere test- atmosphere section Flashcards
what is the composition of the air?
nitrogen, oxygen, argon, and carbon dioxide.
what happens to pressure as you move up in the atmosphere? why?
as you move up in the atmosphere, pressure decreases because there are less gas molecules.
what is the most abundant gas?
nitrogen
what is radiation? give an example.
when energy travels through waves; how heat gets to the earth from outer space.
what is conduction? give an example.
when heat moves though contact with something; when you burn your hand from touching a hot pan.
what is convection? give an example.
the transfer of heat through the circulation of a material; hot air will rise to the upper atmosphere.
why does water heat up slower than land?
because water is a slower conductor of heat than land is.
