ATM Tasks (Standards) Flashcards
1065 (Running Landing)
Shallow approach - Arrive at 40 KIAS at 50’ (FTR press) + (MAX. 300 FPM)
- Select a suitable landing area
- Maintain constant approach angle clear of obstacles to desired touchdown or termination point
- Maintain ground track alignment with the landing direction
- Termination: Aligned with landing direction +/- 5 degrees and touchdown speed appropriate for the conditions
1074 (Engine Failure)
OBS: If twist grip manipulation is required, the pilot not reducing the twist grip will verbally acknowledge which twist grip will be reduced and guard the opposite twist grip to prevent inadvertent manipulation of the good engine.
- Perform task (1070 - Respond to emergencies)
- Transition to OEI flight = Adjust cyclic to maintain 45 KIAS until 200 ft AGL, and clear of obstacles, and then establish Vy (65 KIAS)
- Forced landing (Running landing - Descent rate on approach must not exceed 500 FPM)
1082 (Autorotation)
Entry: 700’ AGL & 90 KIAS
- Establish entry altitude and airspeed as appropriate
- Initiate autorotation by lowering collective until rotor RPM split and/or Vne field of VEMD lane 2 indicates 90 KIAS for autorotation.
- After entry, establish airspeed btw. 60 & 90 KIAS as appropriate
- Maintain heading +/- 5 degrees
- Initiate a progressive deceleration no lower than 100’ AGL
- Perform initial collective application at 10-15’ AGL approximately
Before reaching 300’ AGL, ensure that a steady-state autorotation is attained. If not: Abort
1. Rotor RPM is within limits
2. AC is at the correct airspeed
3. AC is in trim
4. AC is in a position to terminate at the intended landing area
1102 (Manual Throttle)
- Perform TASK 1070
- Maintain affected engine FLI matched +1/-2 FLI
Note : After landing the P* will rotate the twist grip (affected engine) to idle prior to reducing the collective lever to the full down position. With the collective in the full down position and the maneuver completed, the IP will trim the engine and rotor as necessary and place the VAR NR switch to the NORM position.

1321 (Anti-torque Malfunction - Tail rotor drive failure)
- Perform TASK 1070
- Once established on final, decelerate IAW the RFM to 40 KIAS +10/-5, with no greater than 300 FPM rate of descent
- Maintain ground track alignment with the landing direction, if approach can be continued
Note : Left crosswind component is advantageous during approach and landing. The P* should consider selecting an area where a shallow approach can be accomplished with a left crosswind.
1004 (Plan a Visual Flight Rules Flight)
- Determine if aircrew and AC are capable of completing the assigned mission.
- Determine if the flight can be performed under VFR.
- Determine the correct departure, en route, and destination procedures.
- Select route(s) and altitudes that avoid hazardous weather.
- Determine distance (+/- 1NM), GS (+/- 5 knots), and ETE (+/- 1 min for each leg) of the flight. Compute MAG headings (+/- 5 degrees)
- Determine fuel requirements IAW AR 95-1 +/- 100 LBS.
- Verify AC performance data
- Verify NOTAMs
- Complete flight plan and file with the required agency
- Perform mission risk assessment according to unit SOP
1026 (Maintain Airspace Surveillance)
- Brief airspace surveillance procedures prior to flight and assign scan sectors
- Announce drift or altitude changes, clear the AC, and immediately inform other crew members of all air traffic or obstacles that pose a threat to the AC
- Announce when attention is focused inside/back outside again
- Maintain airspace surveillance within scan sectors
OBS : Prior to perform a descending flight maneuver, it may sometimes be desirable to perform “S” turns to the left or right to clear to AC.
1028 (Perform Hover Power Check)
- Determine whether AC weigh exceeds maximum allowable gross weight
- Verify AC gross weight
- Determine sufficient power is available to perform the mission
Also insure that sufficient fuel is available for the entire mission
1038 (Perform Hovering Flight)
- Perform a smooth, controlled ascent to a hover
- Perform a smooth, controlled descent with minimum drift at touchdown
Caution
The mast moment can be easily exceeded during T/O and landing if excessive cyclic movements occur. A thorough crew brief must be performed prior to flight which includes crew coordination to monitor MM limits. If after landing, cyclic center position is in doubt, utilize the centering device on the pilot’s cyclic and re-trim to minimize unwanted cyclic forces.
1044 (Navigate by Pilotage and Dead Reckoning)
- Maintain orientation within 500 meter (0.25 NM) of the planned route, or the actual AC position if deviation from the planned route is required.
- Arrive at check points and/or destination at ETA +/- 1 minute
1052.06 (Wind Recognition)
1058 (VMC Approach)
- Select suitable landing area
- Ensure that sufficient power exists for the type of approach/landing desired
- Determine the direction of terrain approach by analyzing the situation, wind, long axis, and lowest obstacles (SWLL)
- Maintain a constant approach angle clear of obstacles to desired point of termination (hover) or touchdown
- Maintain ground track alignment with the landing direction
- Monitor wind conditions using cockpit indicators
- Align AC with landing direction below 50’ or as appropriate for transition from terrain flight
- Perform a smooth and controlled termination to a hover or touchdown
Procedure
Maintain entry airspeed until the rate of closure appears to be increasing.

1078 (SAS-Off Flight)
