- a value aimed at an attitude object

A
- by associating with others and picking up thier opinions and values (socialisation)
- learn from significant others such as friends, parents and role models
- we can become familiar with the attitudes of others+ accept those beliefs as normal, a process called familiarisation

HOW CAN A COACH USE COGNITIVE DISSONANCE
A
- player given some new info or presented with new form of activity so begin to question current attiudes and motivated to change them
- making the activity fun and varying practice may make session more enjoyable
- using reward as reinforcement
- the coach could bring in a specialist or role model player

A
- an effective communication to promote change
- message needs to be relevant and important
- giver of persausion has to have high status
