ATI Flashcards
Autonomic dysreflexia (AD)
Complications?
Stroke 3-4 times more
MI
Seizures
Urinary retention is a priority concern because it is a main cause of autonomic dysreflexia. Any sudden inc in BP in clients with spinal cord injuries should be assessed and interventions should be implemented, as hypertension can lead to hemorrhagic strokes.
What altruism is?
自分のことよりも、他者の利益や幸福を追求する
a) Enteral feeding?
b) Parenteral feeding?
a) liquid nutrition processed by the gastrointestinal tract
Check gastric residual before feed
(amount of fluid remaining in the stomach after enteral nutrition feeding)
b) liquid nutrition processed by the veins
Risker than enteral feeding
Change IV tubing every 24hrs
Weight daily
Rheumatoid arthritis, what food do they should take?
High in protein, vitamins, and iron to promote tissue repair
Addition to that
Hot showers to help relieve morning stiffness, NOT COLD
Lithium toxicity
What factor increases toxicity?
A low-sodium diet increases their risk for lithium toxicity
Valproic acid
ADR?
Liver damage=jaundice
liver function prior to and periodically during therapy
Albuterol metered-dose-inhaler
How often to clean the mouthpiece?
How many minutes to wait between each inhalation?
Take quick or slow inhalation?
Clean everyday
wait at least 1 min
slow
Take the meds 15 min before playing sports
Anaphylactic shock
What nurse assessment needs?
Auscultate breath sounds Why?
because they are having problems breathing
When cardiac output decreases, what assessment a nurse should take?
Anxiety level
Glucose level
Breathing pattern
Mental status
BP sitting and standing
O2 sat with oxygen
Peripheral pulses
Mental status
because the CO decreases, brain perfusion also decreases
Peripheral pulses
O2 sat with oxygen will not detect early enough to detect a decrease in CO
a) Chlorpromazine?
b) Clonidine?
a) Decrease hallucinations and other manifestations of schizophrenia
b) Antihypertensive drug, dry mouth(AKA xerostomia) are common ADR
Sickle cell disease
What is the complication?
Venous occlusion
-Sickling and clumping of the red blood cells
-No tight clothes, no bend knee, check circulation houly etc
Abducting the hip joint?
by moving the leg away from the midline of the body
Excessive weight loss cause what acido imbalance?
Metabolic acidosis
When administering IV fluid, what factor do we need to monitor?
Monitor urine output
