What qualitative reagents are used to identify biological molecules?

- starch: potassium iodide or iodine solution: yellow to black
- reducing sugars (monosaccharides): Benedict’s reagent: red precipitate
- non-reducing sugars (di/polysaccharides): HCl, Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate + Benedict’s reagent test: red precipitate
- lipids: ethanol + water emulsion test: white milky colour
- proteins: biuret solution: blue to purple precipitate
