  1. starch: potassium iodide or iodine solution: yellow to black
  2. reducing sugars (monosaccharides): Benedict’s reagent: red precipitate
  3. non-reducing sugars (di/polysaccharides): HCl, Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate + Benedict’s reagent test: red precipitate
  4. lipids: ethanol + water emulsion test: white milky colour
  5. proteins: biuret solution: blue to purple precipitate
