assumptions of cog and case studies Flashcards
what are the cognative assumptions
that our brain works like a computor on the principles of input-processing-output
what are the four a01 points for case studies
case studies are indepth and detailed investigations on an individual brain damaged paitent or a group of brain damaged paitents.
both quantitative and qualatative data is collected on brain damaged paitents using triangualtation, and resources such as brain scans, interviews and observations to analyse brain damaged paitents behaviour
case studies are often longitudinal and happen over an extended period of time and focus on an individual paitent with brain damage or a small group of paintents with brain damage. as the study is longitudinal it allows researchers to compare notes through the length of the study
case studies often use both primary data such as observations of brain damaged paintents behaviour of secondary data such as doctor or hospital notes
what is a strength of case studies
supporting research from HM
what does HM supporting research show
a case study was conucted on hm who suffered from epilepsy and underwent surgery at 27, as a result he couldn’t form any new memories and only remeber ones before 27
what is a weakness of case studies
pop valid
how is pop valid a weakness of case studies
only conducted on one individual with brain damage , t/f lacks generalisbaility on findings on brain damage in humans
what is anouther strength
triangulation
how is triangulation a strength
uses lots of different types of data colection - increases validity
what is anouther strength
qualatative datawh
what is anouther weakness
quantitative data / subjectivity
