Assignment 11 - Server Management Flashcards
- What are the advantages of deploying a WSUS server within a domain?
Advantages of using WSUS include clients use local servers for updates as opposed to updates from the Internet, better control of which updates are deployed, and consistency of updates among domain computers.
- What Microsoft products can be updated using the WSUS service?
Microsoft products supported by the WSUS service include:
Most operating systems,
Exchange Server, SQL Server,
Microsoft Office.
- Describe the four tasks that an administrator should consider when deploying the WSUS role.
First - the installation of the WSUS role and where updates will be stored.
Second - configure the server to obtain updates from Microsoft or an upstream WSUS server, decide which updates to receive and when to synchronize to the server.
Third – approval of updates to be deployed to WSUS clients
Fourth – add a downstream server to help with load balancing the update process.
Virus
a program that attempts to damage a computer system and replicate itself to other computer systems. Generally triggered when an infected file is accessed.
Worm
a self-replicating program that uses the network to spread.
Trojan Horse
malware that is disguised as legitimate software.
Rootkit
installed on the boot sector of a hard drive and generally loaded before the operating system and therefore very difficult to detect.
Spyware
designed to intercept or take partial control of the user’s interaction with the computer. Used to collect information about a user.
Adware
used to create popups and advertisements based on a user’s personal preferences.
Ransomware
denies access to an infected computer until the user pays a ransom.
Drive encryption is a common technique used to hold a computer hostage.
- What factors around the use of anti-malware software need to be considered?
Keep malware definitions up to date.
Scan new files before they are copied or downloaded. Scan the entire system periodically.
- Which anti-malware tool is built-in to Windows Operating Systems?
Windows Defender
- Describe the options available using the Windows Backup Feature.
Options available with the Windows Backup Feature include
a. Full Server – backs up all volumes so the entire server can be recovered.
b. Bare Metal Recovery – allows recovery of just the operating system (critical volumes only)
c. System State – Backs up the system state needed to perform a system state recovery.
d. Individual Volumes – backs up individual volumes
e. Folders or Files – backs up individual folders or files.
- What backup storage types are available using the Windows Backup Feature?
Backup storage types include an internal disk, an external disk, or a shared folder on the network. Note that external drives such as tape, USB flash drives, or CD/DVD are not supported.
- What are some of the system resources that can be monitored on a computer system using utilities like Task Manager?
Task Manager can display information about the processes running on a computer, show the performance of the system as far as memory, disk, and network utilization, show which users are currently connected to the system, and show which services are running.
