Assignment 1 – Introduction to Windows Flashcards
Standalone
Each host functions independently, hosts are not connected to a local area network and must use public network connections to communicate.
Workgroup
peer-to-peer networking. Hosts are connected by a local area network, hosts do not have a specific role as they can function as both workstation and server, there is no central administration, accounts are local to each host.
Client / Server Domain networking model
Hosts have clearly defined roles, servers provide services to client computers. Central administration is controlled by the domain controller servers. User accounts, computers, printers, network shares, account policies, security settings are generally all controlled centrally and maintained by the domain administrator.
What are three drawbacks of the Workgroup model?
Workgroup model lacks central administration.
User account information is only know to each local computer.
Consistency of information can be an issue with multiple data shares spread out over multiple hosts. Data backups are more time consuming.
Lack of scalability. Difficult to monitor activity for security.
What are three drawbacks of the Client/Server model?
Client/Server requires special server software, is more difficult to set up and manage than a workgroup.
Can represent a single point of failure with only one domain controller.
Generally more costly due to software/hardware requirements. Requires careful planning.
Which Windows Server tool/interface is used to manage the system using a command line interface?
PowerShell is used to manage the system from a command line.
Which GUI is Windows Server 2012 most similar to?
The GUI in Windows Server 2012 is similar to the Metro interface in Windows 8.

What are the three Windows Server 2016 editions available?
The three Windows Server 2016 versions are
Essentials,
Standard,
DataCenter.
What is the name given to the containers used to organize network resources and simplify administration in a Client/Server environment?

What is the primary Windows Server tool/interface that is used to manage the system within the graphical user interface?
