Assessment Of Hospitalized Patient Flashcards
Best measured using a sliding knee height caliper with the patient’s knee at 90° angle while lying supine
Knee height
Measured, while patient is in seated position, right leg is flexed at ninety degrees at the knee, with the sole of the foot flat on the floor. Measured just below the knee or prominent area.
Calf circumference
The distance from the midline, a the sternal notch to the tip of the middle finger.
Arm span/Half Arm span
Distance from the midline at the sternal notch to the web between the middle finger and ring finger along the outstretch nondominant arm.

Ulna length/Forearm length
The circumference of the upper arm at the triceps skin fold side. BMI can be estimated from this if weight or height cannot be obtained using the equations.

Greater than 23cm - males
Greater than 22cm - females
Color indication of MUAC in children. What is the meaning of red, yellow, and green?
Severe acute malnutrition, moderate acute malnutrition, no acute malnutrition.
MUAC for children indicators
Less than 12.5cm - malnutrition
Greater than 13.5cm - normal
What can be calculated by doubling the half arm span measurement?
Estimated Height
