Assessment Design and Implementation Flashcards
Congruent Assessment
an assessment that tests the learning outcomes described in the learning objectives
Quantitative Data
data which is measured and usually expressed numerically
Risk Ratio (RR)
the statistical probability of students in one racial or ethnic group being identified for special education services as compared to that of all other racial or ethnic groups; an RR greater than 1.0 means that members of the group in question are more likely than average to be identified for special education and potential biases or barriers should be interrogated prior to determination
Appropriate Level
leveled to where the content was taught when considering depth and difficulty
Portfolio
collection of student’s work and achievements that is used to assess past accomplishments and future potential; can include finished work in a variety of media and can contain materials from several courses over time
Criterion-Referenced Tests
tests in which a standard has been set for the test taker to achieve in order to pass the test
Woodcock-Johnson Psycho-Educational Battery
an assessment that measures cognitive ability in specific academic areas, providing information regarding a student’s strengths and weaknesses
Universal Screener
assessment administered to all students to gather data and form groups, such as intervention groups
Screening
Used to place students in appropriate groups
Performance-Based Assessment
assessment that requires students to show mastery of specific skills by demonstrating, producing, or performing something
Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scale
a common assessment used to help diagnose intellectual and developmental disabilities
Progress Monitoring
periodic assessments to monitor student growth and evaluate the effectiveness of instruction
Environmental Evaluation / Ecological Assessment
evaluating students’ abilities and behaviors in their normal environments
Formative Assessments
ongoing evaluations to monitor student progress
Exit Slips
short formative assessment given by a teacher after completing a lesson to determine the degree to which students have learned the material taught in the lesson
Cognitive Testing
a type of testing used when there appears to be cognitive impairment to determine the extent of the impairment
Non-Continuous Text
Text that includes graphs, lists, or images
Accommodations
assistance or changes to the learning process to allow the student to learn the same material as others (Changes HOW they learn)
Diagnostic Assessment / Pre-Assessment
assessment administered before instruction to determine students’ strengths and weaknesses
Educational Diagnostician
a professional who has been trained to assess and diagnosis various disabilities in an educational setting
DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills)
a literacy assessment and progress-monitoring tool that allows educators to assess and track the progress of developing readers and identify areas of weakness for students who may need additional support
Norm-Referenced Tests
tests that compare an individual’s performance/achievement to a group called the “norm group”
Benchmark Standard
a point of reference for evaluating performance
Informal Assessments
more flexible than formal assessments and can be adjusted to fit the situation and particular needs of the student being tested
Clarity of Language
does not contain ambiguous pronouns, words at too high a vocabulary level, or slang terms
Formal Assessments
a usually post-instruction assessment with the purpose of assessing student knowledge, retention, and application; often involve the use of a standardized rubric or scoring guide based on several criteria
Summative Assessments
evaluations at the end of an instructional period
Florida Standards Assessment (FSA)
Assessment that measures gains and academic progress for students in Florida
Achenbach Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL)
a report completed by parents to aid school personnel in developing an overall picture of a student’s emotional/behavioral state
Stanine
scales a test and provide a score of 1-9
Absence of Bias
material based on common situations that all students will have encountered and that will not trigger an emotional response
Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
federal law that replaced the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) to provide all children significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education, and to close educational achievement gaps Impacts SpEd by setting a 1% statewide cap on which students are eligible to participate in alternative assessments
Response to Intervention (RtI)
a process to monitor and measure student progress in the general education curriculum after instructional intervention is provided
Curriculum-Based Assessments
testing the curriculum being taught
Reliability of Assessments
the consistency and stability of assessment results over time, indicating that the evaluation produces similar outcomes under similar conditions for students
Florida Standards Alternate Assessment (FSAA)
An alternative state assessment from the FSA, to more accurately measure learning in core academic content areas for a student with disabilities
Qualitative Data
data which is described rather than measured
Continuous Text
Text that uses sentences and paragraphs
Informal Reading Inventory
A multi-step reading assessment used to gauge a student’s oral and silent reading abilities
Validity
ability of a test or question to measure what it purports to measure
Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS)
a 3-tiered system that provides positive attention for desired behaviors from all students and becomes more specific and motivating for struggling students
Stanford-Binet Test
an assessment used to evaluate a person’s cognitive ability to determine their IQ
