Assessment and screening: BPE Flashcards
BPE criteria
Bleeding on probing (BPE probe) Presence of calculus Presence of other retention factors e.g. overhanging restorations Pocket probing depth (WHO probe 621) Score is per sectant
Use of BPE probe
Highest score in each sextant recorded
Pace between tooth and soft tissue, follow tooth morphology
Use correct amount of force (20-25 grams)
Are you hitting calculus? Can you feel CEJ?
Bucally to lingually
BPE code 0

Plaque score
(Total number tooth parts with plaque)/ (6 x number teeth present) x 100% = %
Bleeding index
(Total number tooth parts with bleeding)/ (6 x number teeth present) x 100% = %
