Assessment and Diagnosis Flashcards
Confabulation on ROR
indicates cognitive impairment. “ Its a claw, its a lobster”
Cattell-Horn-Carroll Theory of intelligence
Three strata model:
Strata III: general intelligence
Strata II: 10 broad cognitive abilities i
Strata I: 70 narrow cognitive abilities
They distinguished between fluid and crystalized intelligence, which are highly correlated.
Crystalized intelligence develops through the use of fluid intelligence.
Larry vs. Riles
defined the relationship between standard intellectual assessments and placement in MR classes. Banned the use of IQ tests in placement of minority children in special education classes.
Timothy Crow
distinguishes between two types of schizophrenia (I and II).
Type I: symptoms of delusions or hallucinations, inappropriate affect, disorganized thinking. Thought to be due to neurotransmitter irregularities.
Type II: symptoms egin in adolescence, poor prognosis, and will not respond to most antipsychotic meds. and most likely due to brain structure abnormalities.
Criteria for diagnosis of Autism
A) Impairment in social functioning
B) impairment in communication (Reversal of Pronouns)
C) Restricted repertoire of activities
D) Onset prior to 3yo
E) 75% of children with Autism are diagnosed with MR
Prognosis is best with late onset, high IQ, and when child speaks before age 5.
Male: Female = 5:1
MMPI-2
Personality Test utilized Empirical Criterion Keying
“Fake Good” = high L, low F, high K
“Fake Bad” = low L, high F, low K
Sternberg Triarchic model of intelligence
Three interacting compnents:
1) Componential/analytic
2) experiential/ creative
3) Practical/ contextual.
Gardner Theory of Multiple Intelligences
came up with a list of 8 different intelligences:
1) linguistic
2) logical-mathmatical
3) musical
4) bodily-kinesthetic
5) spatial
6) interpersonal
7) intrapersonal
8) natrualist.
