What is an infectious disease?
Any disease caused by a pathogen (germ)
What is bacteria?
Microscopic living organisms that have 1 cell.
What is the role of bacteria in the human gut?
Help break down food and turn it into nutrients.
How does bacteria cause food poisoning?
Microbes can grow if people don’t cook food properly.
What is the immune system?
A network of specific immune cells and proteins that protect the body against foreign invaders.
What are the 3 lines of defense?
physical and chemical barriers, non-specific innate responses and specific adaptive responses.
What is immunocompromised system?
Immune system’s defenses are low.
How does covid affects people with immunocompromised system?
They are more likely to die.
