Assessment 2 - Body Coordination Flashcards
Study
What is metabolism?
The chemical reactions in the body’s cells that change food into energy.
What are the steps of metabolism?
- Eating food
- Releases energy
- Digestive system
- Enzymes meet up
- Energy store
What are enzymes
A catalyst and protein that help produce or speed up chemical reactions.
What affects reaction rates of enzymes?
temperature, pH, concentration, inhibitors, catabolism and anabolism.
What are the two parts of the nervous system?
Central Nervous System and Peripheral Nervous System.
What are the parts of the brain?
Cerebellum, brain stem, occipital lobe, parietal lobe, temporal lobe and frontal lobe.
What does the Peripheral Nervous System do?
Allows the brain and spinal cord to receive and send information and regulates involuntary body functions.
What are motor nerves?
Allow the brain to control our muscles.
What are sensory nerves?
Carry signals to the brain to tell it what is going on in the outside world.
What are reflexes?
When the body moves before the brain tells it to.
What is the endocrine system?
It releases hormones into the bloodstream.
What are the parts of the endocrine system?
Adrenals, ovaries, hypothalamus, parathyroids, pineal, thyroid, thymus, pituitary, testical and pancreas
What is homeostasis
When the internal conditions of living organisms remain stable regardless of what is happening in the external environment.
What does the parietal lobe do?
Receive and process sensory input.
What does the occipital lobe do?
Visual processing.
