Action

A

NSAID that inhibits the production of enzyme cycloxygenase which reduces the formation of prostaglandins and thromboxane.

Is used for it’s anti platelet activity in prehospital setting.

What do you do if patient has taken aspirin for chest pain

A

Is it enteric coated, how much did they take and did they chew it?

Still in mouth —> spit out, admin ours
Chewed and swallowed aspirin —> don’t admin anymore aspirin
Swallowed 300mg meet enteric coated aspirin—> admin ours

Why is third trimester of pregnancy a contraindication?

A

Aspirin can cause premature delivery and premature closing of the ductus arterious which is the artery that diverts blood away from the pulmonary arteries to the aorta.
