A

The time following the collapse of the Han (dynasty) in 220 that lasted from 220 to 589. It was a period when China split into several rival kingdoms each ruled by military leaders.

How did Chinese culture change during the Period of Disunion?

A

When Nomadic invaders entered Northern China they adopted the Chinese culture and added their culture. Northern Chinese who didn’t want to be ruled by the Nomadic invaders, fled to Southern China. The Northern Chinese culture mixed with the Southern Chinese culture which resulted in new art and music, new foods and clothing styles.

A

The Period of Disunion ended in 589. A ruler named Yang Jian conquered the south, unified China and created the Sui dynasty. The Sui dynasty lasted from 589 to 618.

During the Period of Disunion many people turned to Buddhism because the found comfort and peace in the teachings. Wealthy people donated land and money for Buddhist temples and by the end of the Period of Disunion Buddhism was well established.

The Age of Buddhism took place from about 400 to about 845. Buddhim influenced Chinese culture including art, literature and architecture.

Buddhism was weakened by the emperor but it still continued to influence Chinese art and literature. Buddhism changed when people started blending elements of Confuscianism and Daoism with it.
