What is Aseptic Technique?
Investigation into which antibiotics are most effective. Working in sterile conditions to prevent contamination and infection of other microbes on you plate.
Examples of Aseptic Technique
Cleaning working surface with disinfectant to kill microbes
washing hands to kill microbes
working near Bunsen burner- microbes in air is being sterilized
Only open peri dish lid slightly to reduce microbes in air landing on plate
Why is it important to keep sterile
If you do get contaminations microbes may outcompete bacteria, you are growing
Method
-Disinfect wok surface. Then light Bunsen burner. Wash your hands. Label the petri dish with name, date and E. coli. Split into three so you can see where to place the disks. Put on bacteria. Sterilize equipment (syringe). Spread bacteria evenly all over the plate. Put three anti microbials on 3 positions already sectioned out. Tape on two sides so oxygen can still get in for the bacteria.
