ARTP01 Flashcards
How do you calculate minimum spontaneous VT?
Use the IBW formula and then multiply by 5.
Minimum value for minute ventilation
<5L/min or >10L/min
***What is the main way to evaluate the effectiveness of bronchodilators
Peak flow meter (this is for sure on the test)
Respirometers can measure what four things?
VE VT VC RSBI (we use a Wrights respirometer)
What is the main difference between Respirometers and Barometer?
Respirometer measures VOLUME in Liters/mL, and the barometer measures PRESSURE in cmH2O
Normal minute ventilation
5-10L/min
**Assesses ability to tolerate weaning from ventilator
Minute Vent formula
VE= VT x RR
If minute vent is over 10L/min what does it mean?
Means the patient is working too hard to breathe.
What measurement evaluates if the patient is breathing deep enough
Tidal Volume
Obtained using IBW x 5= Minimum spontaneous TV
What are the two ways to measure VC?
Via Wrights respirometer doing a FVC or SVC.
SVC- have them inhale all the way in and then slowly exhales into device until fully empty.
What does VC measure?
Measures the patient’s inspiratory reserve volume and expiratory reserve volume. **Allows us to know how they will be able to ventilate under stress/ADLs
Normal VC? minimum?
65-75ml/kg of IBW
Minimum acceptable is 10ml/kg
Which lung volumes make up IC?
Resting tidal volume + Inspiratory reserve
Which lung voumes make up your VC?
Inspiratory reserve/tidal volume/expiratory reserve
What does IC measure?
Volume of air that you can maximally inhale from resting expiration
