Effects of Tawhid on Muslims
live their life in full obedience to him
dependant on Allah and owe everything to him
he is the ultimate provider
placing anything above him is shirk
trinity is totally wrong
Disagreement on Imams
sunni muslims disagree with shi’a of the belief in 12 imams as they are seen as semi Devine
Shi’a belief in Al Imamah
12 Imams chosen by Allah, direct descendants of Muhammad beginning with Ali
Protected by Allah from committing any sin, keeps islam pure
First 11 were martyred
12th is in occultion, waiting to reappear at a time chosen by Allah
Will return at the end of the world as the messiah
Shi’a belief in the Quran
do not believe it is eternal
believe the Quran can be added to by imams who can interpret the message
Background to difference between Sunni and Shi’a
- belief over who should be the caliph/sucessor of Muhammad
- Shi’a muslims believed Ali should be the first caliph instead of Abu Baker
- Shi’as do not acknowledge the first 3 caliphs
Shi’a belief in Al Adl
Divine justice
- allah is perfect and always acts in a correct way
- humans are able to use their reasoning to work out right way to act
- disagree with predestination, believe humans have free will and thats why allah can judge them
