When do you use definite articles?
- For concepts
- Academic subjects
- names of languages
- Before titles (except when addressing the person)
- When in English a possessive would be used instead (clothes, parts of body)
When do you omit articles?
- with professions/ occupations after verb ser
- nationality/religion/political persuasion
- possessions/personal effects/certain ailments with the verb tener
- the equivalent in Spanish of a hundred, a thousand
- Equivalent of What a…! e.g. what a good idea ‘Qué buena idea!
What is the neuter article and how is it used?
‘Lo’ - Lo + adjective or past participle to express in English ‘the thing that…’
