What is crepitus of the knee? What is it commonly caused by?
Creaking, cracking, or popping when moving the knee joint, commonly caused by osteoarthritis when cartilage rubs on joint surface
What are glucocorticoids?
Group of corticosteroids used to reduce inflammation and pain
Where is the most common area for loss of joint space?
Medial part of knee joint (between medial femoral condyle and medial tibial condyle)
What are osteophytes?
Bony spurs commonly found on bone margins intra-articularly (within joint capsule)
What effect will knee replacement surgery have on muscles?
. Quadriceps femoris muscle damaged due to vertical incision made down knee (vertical to avoid slicing tendons)
. Weakened quadriceps femoris= flexion at hip and extension at knee more difficult
