Arrhenius equation Flashcards
1
Q
what does the Arrhenius equation show?
A
How rate constant (K) changes depending on temperature and activation energy
2
Q
for the Arrhenius equation, as Ea gets BIGGER, k gets….
A
k gets smaller
- so the rate will be slower
- This is because if the reaction has a higher activation energy, this means not many reactant particles will have enough energy to react
3
Q
for the Arrhenius equation, as temparture increases, K ….
A
K increases
- as the at higher temperatures particles have more energy and move faster and collide more frequently and successfully.
- so rate increases
4
Q
take a natural log from Arrhenius equation gives….
A
lnK=lnA - Ea/RT
unit for temperature is Kelvin.
5
Q
what do u plot against when plotting an arrhenius plot
A
plot lnK ( y axis) against 1/T ( x axis)
6
Q
what is the expression for gradient of the line of best fit
A
1) -Ea/R
- then once you know the actual gradient, you can calculate activation energy and Arrhenius constant.
