Q

Explain the Teleological Argument

A

Paley used the analogy of a watch - it takes intelligence and thought to design a watch
The universe shows evidence of design - e.g. fibonacci sequence in nature
Only God could have intelligence and thought enough to design an intrinsic, complex and beautiful world
Therefore, as the universe exists, God exists

Q

What are the flaws with this argument?

A

You could argue that evolution and natural selection has scientific evidence
Why would God make us with flaws? Why not make a perfect human model?
Human beings are not watches, they change and reproduce etc…
Watches are man-made, they break and kink
Inductive leap: the complexity of the watch doesn’t equal the complexity of the universe
Who designed God?
