Q

Explain the Cosmological Argument

A

Nothing can come into existence on its own —everything needs a cause: “Something cannot come from nothing.” (Richard Swinburne)
Therefore the universe needs a cause
Only God is powerful enough to bring the universe into existence and to keep it going
Therefore God exists

Q

What are the flaws with the Cosmological Argument?

A

The premise makes sense but conclusion takes an inductive leap
Why does God have to be the first cause?
Who caused God?
This suggests that time is linear — it doesn’t have to be
What came first — the chicken or the egg?
Nietzsche — God is Dead
