toulmin
identifies the three essential parts of any argument as the claim; the data (also called grounds or evidence), which support the claim; and the warrant. The warrant is the assumption on which the claim and the evidence depend.
What is a good argument?

Ultimately the goal is not to destroy your opponent or dismantle their viewpoints, but rather to reach a satisfactory conclusion
Claim
assertion or proposition
Fact
assert something that is true or not true
Value
argues that something is good or bad, right or wrong, desirable or undesirable
Policy
proposing a chnage
Closed Thesis
a statement of the main idea of the argument that also previews the major points
Open Thesis
one that does not list all the points the writer intends to cover
Counterargument thesis
the use of ‘although’ which precedes the writer’s argument
