Allowing copying helps societies advance & surely products of human intellect should be available to us all.

Concerns copyright used to restrict dissemination of speech/learning/culture without really benefitting the creator.

A
The basic idea is protecting authors as work is a manifestation of your personality - this doesn’t justify copyright lasting 70years after death.

Do reward and incentive justifications for copyright apply to academics?
A
No, reward doesn’t work as often authors haven’t been the one that’s made the investment. Furthermore, incentive doesn’t work as copyright restricts production of academic knowledge.
