Argument Flashcards
Point 1
Social advancement
-times have changed
-women have been given more and more freedoms and opportunities
-women are now educated to the same level/ have experience
-made sense for Paul and other to say women shouldn’t lead because they only knew what their mothers taught them
-now that both sexes are equally educated should)t they have the freedom to spread their faith in whatever they feel they’ve been called even if that means leading churches
Point 2
Women were some of Jesus closest friends, he spoke to them and appeared to Mary at resurrection
-we are taught from the start of the bible god is the ultimate leader
-if Jesus was god in human form (perfect)we must follow all his actions to little details
-throughout Jesus ministry he broke many social barriers including talking to women
-he allowed Mary of Bethany to sit at his feet like a disciple
-spoke to a sinful samaritan women at a well
-defended sinful women who anointed his feet
-defended women caught in adultery
-heals bleeding women and acknowledges her publicly
-entrusts the news of resurrection with Mary Magdalene , I believe he made this as a choice
-could have appeared to anyone chose Mary to show he included women in evangelism
-no shortage of women in the bible (even for the patriarchal time)just often overlooked
Counter argument
-some argue if we follow Jesus to every detail why would he chose only men apostles but still want women to lead
-this is true but I think it was a logistical decision
-god is omniscient meaning he has all understanding and knowledge
-therefore he knew if choose women to spread the message they would get pushed aside and told their ideas were blasphemy (patriarchal society)
-which is why I think not necessarily god wanted only men but that was the only way to save both his sons and daughters because of this sinful world
-but now that things have changed and god has made a way for women I do believe they shoukd preach and serve gods kingdom
-furthermore likely any women’s ministry was left out because the bible was written by men who thought women weren’t important
-could be missing parts of the puzzle
Point 3
-why would a god described as so loving and caring ever let the gender of a person get in the way of all the souls that could be saved
-I believe god would much rather have his children called home to faith than not because the world wouldn’t let a women lead the church.
-number of priests are decreasing putting the survival of the faith on the line because your afraid to let women lead is not what I believe god wants
-god has provided different roles based of the unique talents and abilities he has given us
-so just like god gave some men the ability to nurse he gave some women the ability to lead
-I don’t believe god would ever let gender be a barrier for calling his children home and growing teh faith
-Our gender shouldn’t get in the way of his plan for us (Galatians 3.28)
Conclusion
Therefore I do believe women can lead the church because I believe god only aims is to have more souls saved, call his children and grow his church. If this means using men and women to preach in all kinds of different ways(including leading) I believe he would do it without a second thought.
